Unfortunately, scammers often try to take advantage of such disasters, by setting up fake websites, Go Fund Me sites, aid services, etc.
The Federal Trade Commission, Department of Justice and the Consumer Fraud Protection Bureau issued a joint warning to consumers and offered advice about how to avoid potential scams, so your donations goes where it’s intended.
