The Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation has donated $25,000 toward the renovation of York Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The independent nonprofit hospital, which has been in operation for 111 years, launched their “Leading with Heart” capital campaign last year. Construction is underway now.

“York Hospital is a true community hospital in the same way that we’re a community bank,” observed Lex Meagher, the Bank’s President and CEO. “They are rooted in the community and responsive to its changing needs.”

The project is set to meet numerous objectives set out by the state of Maine’s Cardiovascular Health Strategic Plan, which aims to reduce coronary heart disease deaths among Mainers.

“It’s worth noting how important it is to have this right here in York,” said Chris Kehl, Managing Director of the Bank’s 1871 Group. “Every minute matters in the world of heart health. Keeping good care close by is going to save lives.”

The crux of the “Leading with Heart” campaign involves expanding the Catheterization Lab and outfitting it with new tech. New imaging and monitoring systems will allow providers to perform a wide range of procedures with complete, seamless control at the table side to enhance decision making and create the ideal treatment environment.

York Hospital President and CEO, Dr. Patrick A. Taylor added, “We are very grateful to the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation for making an investment in cardiac care for this community. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women worldwide, and the second leading cause of death in Maine. It is a serious health concern and with community support – such as this grant from the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation – York Hospital can continue to provide state-of-the-art critical cardiac care to all, when they need us most.”
