The Huntington Common Charitable Fund for Seniors of the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation Begins Accepting Proposals

KENNEBUNK, MAINE – Requests for grants from the Huntington Common Charitable Fund for Seniors of the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation are now being accepted.

Kennebunk Savings Assistant Vice President for Community Relations, Heather Harris said, “The goal of this Fund within the Foundation is to improve the lives of seniors in York County who may be having a difficult time. Its Board of Advisors really wants to concentrate on programs that help Seniors with their basic needs, including awareness and health programs, as well as nutrition programs. We’ve all been impressed by the outstanding programs that serve Seniors here in York County and we hope to review and fund even more programs than we did last year.”

In 2007 the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation through the Huntington Common Charitable Fund distributed $100,000 in grants for the following programs: Homehealth Visiting Nurses for improving care for chronic patients through telehealth, Hospice of Southern Maine’s volunteer and bereavement program, Portland Conservatory of Music for “Exploring Music” classes, Senior Center at Lower Village for “Caring For Your Aging Family Members” workshops, SMMC Visiting Nurses for Lunch and Learn Programs entitled “Identifying, Preventing and Managing Chronic Conditions”, Southern Maine Agency On Aging for nutrition programs, York County Community Action Corporation’s “Keeping Seniors at Home” program; York County Senior College “Odyssey of the Mind”, the York County Shelter Program’s nutritional support for seniors, and the York County Community Action Corporation for seniors’ emergency heating assistance needs.

Guided by a special Board of Advisors, the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation Huntington Common Charitable Fund has a goal of helping seniors (ages 65 and older) throughout York County lead more complete and fulfilled lives. Members of the Board of Advisors include: Doug Stockbridge, David McConnell, Bill Gilpatric, Joel Stevens and Kathryn S.B. Davis. Interested non-profit 501c3 organizations can apply online by clicking here or contact Heather Harris at Kennebunk Savings Bank. The deadline for receipt of this year’s first grant requests is June 30.

In May 2006 the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation announced the establishment of a $3 million endowed fund to benefit York County seniors. The Fund, known as the Huntington Common Charitable Fund for Seniors of the Kennebunk Savings Bank Foundation, was founded as a result of the sale of the previously nonprofit Huntington Common Retirement Living Community of Kennebunk to Sunrise Senior Living of Virginia.
